Ep 10. How to Build Brand Trust
Nourish Your Brand · Episode 10
Today we're diving into the meat and potatoes of branding: building trust. It's that classic, comforting dish people turn to because they know it'll satisfy. Trust in branding works the same way. It's about creating a reliable, dependable experience, so when your customers trust you, they keep coming back. There are two parts to it, so let's get into it.
Be genuine: stay true to your purpose and values
Being genuine is like using the best quality meat and top-notch potatoes. Your brand purpose is the core reason your brand exists beyond making a profit, the thing that drives you every day. This is the very first step in my Brand Kitchen process, because when your purpose is clear, it becomes a compass. It helps you navigate challenges, spot opportunities and make decisions that stay true to you.
Your purpose isn't a willy-nilly statement you fling on your website. It's an internal guiding principle that influences every business decision. And customers can sense when a brand is genuine and aligned with its purpose, that's what fosters trust and loyalty. If your brand values structure, for example, then your customer experience, your offer and your delivery should all have structure baked in. That consistency reassures people you're reliable.
When I started Studio Coya five and a half years ago, I had no idea, and my brand was all over the place. Lots of different clients, lots of different projects, no clear direction. Once I worked out my purpose, to help brands confidently share their unique flavour, it got so much easier to make good decisions and know what to talk about. That clarity kept me focused and built trust, because clients could feel the consistency and authenticity in everything I did. If you want to get that clarity for yourself first, that's exactly what a Brand Recipe session is for.
Be recognisable: a distinct identity
Being recognisable is like having a signature recipe for your meat and potatoes. Your brand identity, your logo, colour palette, typography and overall style, should be instantly recognisable. A strong visual identity creates familiarity and reliability, and the more people see you, the more they trust you. It's not just about looking good, it's about being memorable across every platform and touchpoint.
When I built the visual identity for Studio Coya, I focused on a distinct, cohesive look, from the little serifs in my logo to the grid backgrounds, the colour and the typography, all chosen to reflect my personality, values and purpose. Clients often tell me they can instantly spot my posts and go "oh yeah, that's Aiza." That's the power of a well-crafted identity, and pulling all of that together is what happens inside the Brand Kitchen.
Your words matter too
Distinctiveness extends to your tone and voice, the part of brand identity people don't talk about enough. If your visual style is playful and friendly but your writing is stiff and corporate, there's a disconnect that quietly stops trust from building. So make sure how you talk matches how you look. When the whole thing is cohesive, across your website, your socials and your tone, that's when trust really takes hold.
Ask yourself this week
A couple of honest questions.
Is your brand purpose clear, and does it actually guide your decisions, or is it just words on a page?
Could someone recognise your brand instantly across your website, socials and emails, visuals and voice included?
Where to go from here
Building brand trust is like serving up a plate of meat and potatoes. It needs genuine, good ingredients and a distinct recipe. Done right, it creates a reliable, satisfying experience that keeps people coming back.

How do I build trust in my brand? Two things: be genuine by staying true to a clear purpose and values, and be recognisable with a distinct, consistent identity. Together they create the reliable experience that earns trust and keeps people coming back.
What is a brand purpose and why does it matter? Your purpose is the core reason your brand exists beyond profit. It's an internal compass that guides your decisions, and people can sense when a brand is genuinely aligned with it. That authenticity is the foundation of trust.
How does a consistent visual identity build trust? The more consistently people see your brand, the more familiar and reliable it feels. A cohesive identity across every platform, visuals and voice included, makes you memorable and trustworthy. Pulling it all together is what I do in the Brand Kitchen.
