Celebrating 50 Episodes! 50 Branding Tips, Part 1: Brand Foundations
Nourish Your Brand · Episode 50
This is episode 50, and to celebrate I'm serving up 50 branding tips across a five-part series, ten bite-sized tips each. We're starting where everything rests: the foundations.
Think of part one as gathering your ingredients, because when the base is solid, your visuals, messaging and sales all get easier. Let's get into it.
Ten foundational branding tips
Use your branding consistently. Recognition comes from repeating your branding everywhere people meet you, proposals, socials, website, freebies, not just a nice feed.
Identify what sets you apart. Pinpoint your key differentiator, your process, energy, philosophy or tone, and lean into your quirks rather than hiding them.
Craft a personality you can actually embody. Don't force "fun and playful" if that's not you. Your brand should reflect the version of you that shows up at your best, not a mould you have to squeeze into.
Choose a central theme that reflects who you are. A theme isn't just cute, it's a strategic through-line that shapes your visuals, copy and offers, and helps people remember you (mine is food). (More on this in Episode 42)
Define how you want people to feel after interacting with your brand. Branding is a Venn diagram, one side you, one side your audience, and the sweet spot is the overlap. Those feelings guide your colours and tone, and they're what people remember and share.
Build a brand ritual or cue. A signature shape, phrase, emoji or layout that, repeated over time, becomes tied to you. (People associate my Offer Oven with bread because of the puns, emojis and photography)
If your branding drags your energy down, look at it. Dreading a font, colour or graphic is a clue. Let go of what feels clunky, because when branding's easy to use, showing up gets easier and more fun.
Let your brand values shape your identity. If simplicity is a value, it might mean clean fonts, clean layouts and minimal colour. Your values aren't just internal culture, they guide how your brand looks and feels.
Create a brand checklist for how you show up. A handful of cues, three to five words for how you sound, a few reference images, becomes a quick gut-check that saves hours of second-guessing.
Apply your branding everywhere. Before deciding it isn't working, make sure you've actually used it across every touchpoint. Clarity comes with action.
Ask yourself this week
Which of these ten is your weakest link right now?
Do you actually have a theme and a brand cue that are yours?
Have you genuinely used your branding everywhere, or just judged it?
Where to go from here
These foundations are all about alignment, intention and resonance, because a brand that feels right works harder for you. If you'd like a hand setting yours, a Brand Recipe session gets you clear, or book a free Brand Pairing call. Next up, part two: offer branding and positioning.

Here's More…
What are brand foundations? The base everything rests on: consistent use of your branding, a clear differentiator, an authentic personality, a theme, and a defined feeling you want to evoke. Get these right and visuals, messaging and sales all get easier.
Why does brand consistency matter so much? Recognition comes from repeating your branding everywhere people meet you, not from one nice feed. Consistency turns every touchpoint into something people trust and remember.
Do I need a brand theme? You don't have to, but a strategic theme is a powerful through-line that shapes your visuals and copy and makes you memorable. It's one of the foundational tips for a reason, and Episode 42 goes deeper.
