Ep 46. Has Your Branding Expired? (3 Signs It's Time to Refresh)
Nourish Your Brand · Episode 46
You know that jar of sauce at the back of the fridge, the one you opened ages ago and keep going "is this still okay? I think it's fine"?
That's what expired branding feels like. It might not be obviously bad, but something's off, and deep down you know you don't really want to use it anymore.
Yes, branding can expire. Let's get into the signs, and what to do. Let's get into it.
Branding isn't supposed to last forever
This might surprise you, but branding isn't a one-and-done job. Your business grows, your voice changes, you refine and shift direction and attract different clients. All amazing, but if your branding (the visuals, the tone, the positioning) hasn't caught up, it starts to quietly sabotage you.
You usually feel it before you can name it. It creeps in, not as "I hate my logo," but as hesitating to share your website link, not wanting to show off a launch, or rewriting your about page over and over. You're delivering amazing work, but the outside no longer matches the inside.
Sign 1: you have to prove yourself on every sales call
When your branding isn't doing the pre-work, building trust and credibility before the call, you carry that weight in the conversation. You over-explain, over-sell, and leave feeling like you had to convince someone of your value. Branding done well takes that pressure off and gets people halfway sold before they book. (This is exactly the buy-in idea from Episode 45)
Sign 2: you dread someone asking to see your website
You know what they'll find doesn't reflect who you are, too basic, too safe, too templated. So instead of proudly sharing it, you apologise: "the info's there, but excuse the look, I need to update it." That "just ignore the design" disclaimer is a sign your brand has expired.
Sign 3: you've launched a brilliant offer but it blends in
You've poured strategy and heart into a great offer, but visually it looks like everything else, so people scroll past and assume you're just another program. It's a hard pill when you know your work is anything but average. A distinct offer brand is what stops that. (More on that in Episode 19)
The quiet cost
When your branding isn't aligned with where you're at, it creates low-key friction everywhere.
You hesitate to raise your prices, you over-explain on calls, you post inconsistently because you don't feel confident, and you second-guess your content and your offer.
It's not because your business isn't great, it's because your branding hasn't caught up to your greatness.
Ask yourself this week
Does your branding reflect where your business actually is now, or a past version of you?
Do you dread sharing your website, or feel proud to?
Did your stomach drop a little when I asked? If so, it's probably time.

Here's More…
Can branding actually expire? Yes. As your business grows and shifts, branding that hasn't kept up starts to work against you. It's rarely "I hate my logo", it's hesitating to share your site, not showing off launches, and feeling the outside no longer matches the inside.
What are the signs my branding needs refreshing? You feel you have to prove yourself on every sales call, you dread sharing your website, and your great offers blend in. Together they signal your brand has passed its best-before date.
Do I need a full rebrand if my branding feels off? Not necessarily. Often a focused refresh that meets you where you are now is enough, which is exactly what the 14-day Brand Chef's Special is built to do.
