Ep 45. How to Get Buy-In Before the Sales Call
Nourish Your Brand · Episode 45
What if your sales call started with "I already know I want to work with you, how soon can we start?" The person's excited, they understand what you do, they're quoting your own words back to you, and you're not explaining, you're aligning.
That's what happens when your business brand, offer brand and theme work together. It's like walking into a restaurant and instantly loving the vibe before you've even seen the menu. Let's get into it.
Why sales calls feel like a pitch
Most service providers are amazing at what they do, but the sales call still feels like a pitch, justifying, explaining, starting from scratch. (I feel it too sometimes.)
Here's what's usually going on: your business brand is fine but doesn't spark much, your offer brand has a name and maybe a sales page but doesn't communicate the depth or transformation, and your theme is either missing or not creating cohesion.
That's what creates friction, you re-explain things that should have been obvious, your client asks for more info because they haven't felt the value, and you carry the emotional weight of the whole call.
What it looks like when they align
Your business brand sets the tone and attracts the right people into your world. Your offer brand compels them to buy by making the transformation specific and visible. Your theme is the connection that makes the whole experience cohesive and memorable. (That's the three roles in a nutshell, attraction, conversion, connection)
Together they do the sales work upfront, so the call feels spacious and collaborative because the connection's already made. You get DMs saying "I already know I want in," and calls become "I love how you described this, when can we start?" That's the difference between convincing and confirming.
How it clicked for me
Early on, my branding looked all right, then I rebranded and added the food theme, which was fun and stood out. But my offers still lived in a generic space, so I'd get compliments on the rebrand yet still over-explain on calls.
It wasn't until I gave my offers their own identities, Brand Kitchen, Offer Oven, and now the Brand Chef's Special, and tied them back to my theme, that it clicked. People started asking specifically for the Offer Oven, understanding it before I explained. (More on giving an offer its own identity in Episode 40.)
A recent client said every sales call felt like starting from scratch. We refined her business brand, gave her offer a fresh identity that showed the transformation, and anchored it with a theme. Within a week of launching she booked two dream clients, both saying "I felt like you were speaking directly to me."
Three signs this is what's missing
You're doing most of the talking on calls (that's a performance, not a sale, and a sign your brand isn't building trust beforehand).
You're getting compliments but not conversions (your business brand works but your offer brand isn't showing what you can do).
And you keep tweaking your sales page unsure what's missing (often the missing piece is a theme to hold it all together). (If that constant tweaking sounds familiar, it's the trap from Episode 33)
Ask yourself this week
On your last sales call, were you convincing or confirming?
Do people arrive already understanding your offer, or starting from zero?
Which of the three, attraction, conversion or connection, is the weak link?
Where to go from here
Here's your cheat sheet: business brand equals attraction, offer brand equals conversion, theme equals connection. When all three align, your brand does the talking so your calls are about confirming, not convincing.

How do I get buy-in before a sales call? Let your branding do the pre-work. When your business brand, offer brand and theme align, people arrive already understanding and trusting you, so the call is about confirming details, not convincing them of your value.
Why do my sales calls feel like a pitch? Usually because your brand isn't building trust beforehand, so you carry the whole conversation, over-explaining and justifying. When your offer brand and theme are clear, that weight lifts off the call.
What are the three roles a brand plays in a sale? Attraction (your business brand), conversion (your offer brand), and connection (your theme). When all three work together, your brand sells for you. Building that is exactly what the Brand Chef's Special does.
