Celebrating 50 Episodes! 50 Branding Tips, Part 4: Brand Cohesion & Consistency

Nourish Your Brand · Episode 53

Part four of my 50-tip series. Even the most beautiful branding falls flat if it's only used some of the time.

Consistency and familiarity build trust, and the more cohesive your branding feels across every touchpoint, the easier it is to turn interest into action.

Here are ten practical ways to keep it sharp day to day. Let's get into it.

‍ ‍

Ten cohesion and consistency tips

  1. Create a publish checklist. Before you hit post, a 30-second gut check: am I using my brand fonts? Is the logo placed right? Are the colours aligned? Does it veer too far from my templates? It saves you from sneaky off-brand moments.

  2. Make your core touchpoints feel like one experience. Homepage, Instagram, freebies, email footers. Lay them side by side on a virtual whiteboard, squint, and see what sticks out like a sore thumb so it all feels like it came from the same kitchen.

  3. Assign formats to specific styles. Carousels always bold, reel covers more playful, newsletters with the same dividers. Format rules give variety without chaos, and people recognise your content at a glance. (Consistency without sameness, the theme of Episode 3)

  4. Bring your brand into the unseen places. Proposals, onboarding docs, client reports, Zoom backgrounds, Notion portals. These deepen trust during the client experience and signal you care about every detail.

  5. Replace generic templates with custom ones. If your post looks like 20 other businesses', you've lost the chance to be memorable. A few simple, repeatable layouts that feel like you build cohesion and save time.

  6. Design your testimonials like mini case studies. Don't plop a quote on a pastel background. Use your brand fonts and hierarchy to tell the story of what you did for the client, turning a throwaway quote into trust-building proof.

  7. Use colour intentionally. Assign colours to functions, one always for CTAs, one for backgrounds, one for accents, so people subconsciously learn what to do.

  8. Keep a living folder of ready-to-go graphics. Your brand pantry of mockups, textures and photos, so when time's tight you grab something on-brand instead of scrambling.

  9. Reuse high-performing visuals. If a graphic or layout worked once, use it again. Most of your audience didn't see it the first time, and repetition builds recognition, not boredom.

  10. Create a brand rhythm. Consistency happens when it's scheduled, batch content weekly, do a monthly cohesion check-in, so you don't wake up six months later off-track.

‍ ‍

Ask yourself this week

Do you sense-check before you publish, or post and hope?

Do your behind-the-scenes touchpoints feel as on-brand as your public ones?

Is staying consistent a scheduled habit, or something you only notice when it's slipped?

Where to go from here

Your brand doesn't just live on your homepage, it's in the proposals, the PDF footers, the tiny corners of your client experience.

Here's More…

How do I keep my branding consistent day to day? Use a publish checklist, assign formats to specific styles, keep custom templates and a ready-to-go graphics folder, and schedule a regular cohesion check-in. Consistency is a habit, not a one-off.

Does my branding matter in behind-the-scenes places? Yes. Proposals, onboarding docs and client portals happen during the client experience, so they often carry more weight. On-brand details there deepen trust and turn clients into advocates.

Is it okay to reuse my visuals? Absolutely. If something performed well, reuse it. Most of your audience missed it the first time, and repetition builds recognition rather than boring people.
